This post is a suggestion for Surface RT owners on how to speed up many operations considerably.

On the classic Desktop, touch or right-click on COMPUTER.  From the File Explorer Window ribbon or the pop-up, pick Properties.  Then on the left of the next window, touch or click Advanced System Settings.  On the next window, click the Advanced tab.  Down under the Performance section, touch/click Settings.  Now click the option, ADJUST FOR BEST PERFORMANCE.  But before closing out,  BE SURE TO CHECK THE OPTION Smooth Edges of Screen Fonts.

You will find with relatively little loss of appearance that you have speeded up many operations on your Surface RT tablet PC considerably.

If you don't like the result, simply return to the same Settings screen but now recheck the Let Windows Chose What's Best For My Computer.

Sorry but there is no "computer" icon on the desktop side of the Surface RT.  Where do I start?

You can open a File Explorer window and find Computer in the left-hand pane, or (if you have a touch/type cover) right-click in the lower left corner and click on System to get the same dialog.
