my current case is:

surface pro 8 i7 + surface dock 1 + miniDP to DP + xiaomi 34" monitor, computer does not detect external monitor.

while I notice:

surface pro 8 i7 + surface dock 1 + miniDP to HDMI + xiaomi 34" monitor, it is OK to be detected.

surface pro 8 i7 + surface dock 1 + miniDP to DP + LG 27" monitor, it is OK to be detected.

I used to have surface pro 3 as follows:

surface pro 3 i5 + surface dock 1 + miniDP to DP + xiaomi 34" monitor, it is OK to be detected.

surface pro 3 i5 + surface dock 1 + miniDP to DP + LG 27" monitor, it is OK to be detected.

surface dock 1's firmware has been updated to Surface_Dock_FwUpdate_1.53.139_Win10_17763_20.075.41193_0_AMD64.msi, whcih is sucessful.

win11 has been updated to the newest version, all drivers are updated.

do you have some idea how to cope with my problem?

    Hi N_Wang96,

Thank you for reaching Microsoft Community.

May I know what is the native screen resolution and refresh rate of your 34" Xiaomi monitor?

What is its DisplayPort version? Most external screens have an on-screen menu that adjusts the DisplayPort version used by the monitor. Follow the instructions in the screen's manual or check the manufacturer's website.

The Surface Pro 8 i7 processor is specifically the Quad-core 11th Gen Intel® Core™ i7-1185G7 Processor (Intel® Core™ i7-1185G7 Processor (12M Cache, up to 4.80 GHz, with IPU)) in which it uses the Intel® Iris® Xe Graphics. Graphics output for DisplayPort is DP 1.4. While the previous Surface Pro 3 i5 (Intel® Core™ i5-4300U Processor (3M Cache, up to 2.90 GHz)) shows Graphics output is DP (probably DP 1.0 or 1.1). Please check which DisplayPort version does your Xiaomi monitor used and check if you can change it to DP 1.4.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply, following is xiaomi 34" monitor's specification, unfortunately, as surface pro 8 can not detect it throught dock 1, monitor will show "no signal" on the screen, then go into "sleeping mode". unfortunately, under "sleeping mode", this monitor can not do any source setting, or DP version setting either:

    Hi N_Wang96,

Thank you for the response and for the details provided.

Surface Dock 1 supported screen resolution and refresh rates are at 4096x2304 @30Hz and 2560x1600 @60Hz while your Xiaomi 34" monitor's native resolution and refresh rate is at 3440x1440 @ 144Hz. The very high refresh rate could be the cause of the issue but please try to clear the display cache first by running the Surface Dock Registry file then check if the issue persist. See: Troubleshoot connecting Surface to a second screen (microsoft.com) and refer to Solution 6.

Please check also when the monitor is detected through the HDMI connection, what is the screen resolution and refresh rate used by the monitor. Go to Windows Settings > System Display > Multiple Displays.

If the issue persist after clearing the display cache, kindly run these steps below:

    1: Run Surface Diagnostic Toolkit

See: Fix common Surface problems using the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit (microsoft.com)

    2: Check for Windows Update

Go to Windows Settings > Update & Security and select Check for updates

Make sure all updates need are installed including Optional updates

    3: Update drivers and firmware

Check what is the current OS Build of your Windows version by going to Settings > System > About

Go to Download driver and firmware for Surface, choose Surface Pro

Then click the link next to Surface Pro 8 then click Download on the next page.

Choose the .msi file that matches your current OS Build and click Next.

After downloading, run and install the .msi then Restart.

    Hope this helps.

Thanks for your reply. Have tried Solution 6 which clear the display cache, the issue persist.

with HDMI connection, it shows as follow with refreshing rate at 50HZ (only give me two choices, 30HZ and 50HZ):

mentioned other steps 1 to 3 have been tried as well, the issue still persist.

Never mind, as the monitor works through HDMI connection, it does not cause me any trouble. Maybe it can be OK someday when the new set of drivers are updated (For your info, after having this issue, I even tried to update the display driver through Intel's website to their newest version released on Nov 02, but found it does not help with DP, and even not stable with HDMI, so I rolled back to innitial version: 27.20.100.9624 release on 7/23/2021)

    Hi N_Wang96,

Thank you for the response and the added details. I'm sorry to hear that the issue persist with the mini DisplayPort connection. It is good though that it is working through the HDMI connection. There could be some incompatibilities with the mini DisplayPort that caused the issue and yes, hopefully it will be fixed in the next updates.

Regarding with the updated version of display graphics directly from Intel, we do not recommend updating it directly from the Intel website since these drivers are not yet tested and verified to work with the Surface. We recommend doing the update only through Windows Updates.

Thank you so much for spending your time and effort to troubleshoot and report the issue here with us in the Community.
