Connecting Surface Pro to a monitor.

I recently purchased a Samsung monitor. My 5th Gen Surface Pro is only 2 years old. I purchased the proper connecting cord from Microsoft (MiniDisplay Port to HDMI), but it still will not work. Advanced display settings recognize the monitor but says display 2 is not active. I had installed all required updates on this computer.

I am at a loss as to how to get this dang thing to work.

Any advice (other than to buy a new computer) would be much appreciated.

Thanks!

M

    Hi Marianne_70,

Thank you for reaching Microsoft Community.

May I know the exact model of your Samsung monitor?

Does it have other video input option aside from the HDMI that you are using, like DisplayPort and VGA?

If yes, please make sure that the monitor is set to take/recognize video input from the HDMI port. To confirm on this, you may contact the monitor manufacturer.

Please see this page for more details: Troubleshoot connecting Surface to a second monitor

    Hope this helps.

The Samsung Monitor is a CF39 series. It has an HDMI input, an RBG input and an input for speakers.

The monitor is set to take video input from HDMI.

The monitor is detected by the Surface Pro. On the monitor, is toggles between HDMI and Analog.

I tried the Mini Display port to HDMI cable (which I bought from Microsoft) as well as the Mini Display to HDMI converter and then used the HDMI cable that came with the monitor.

I will call Samsung in the morning and see if they can help.

    Thank you for your response.

I called Samsung. They had me reload the driver for this particular monitor but to no avail. They suggested some of the things that you suggested and finally said to check the warranty on the monitor. Big help.

I have walked through all of the steps for troubleshooting issues with connecting a Surface Pro to a monitor.

I know the cable works as the Surface Pro recognizes the monitor.

I can't really blame the monitor as I had the same problem with my HP monitor, too.

I have watched all of the YouTube videos on how to connect Surface Pros to monitors but none of that worked either.

I have read that Surface Pro's are known to have issues connecting to monitors. I'm just not tech-savvy enough to figure this out.

At this juncture, I will probably take it in to a computer service shop and see if they can connect it to their monitor and show me what I need to do

If they cannot, I will sell the Surface Pro.

I'm sorry but it really should not be this difficult to connect a computer to a monitor.

    Thanks.

    Nope.

I'm going to take it up to a local computer store to see if they can get it to work on their monitors with my HDMI cords just to see if it is the monitor or the computer.

    It is really frustrating!
