    Hello kardo,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

We noticed that you are using a Surface Laptop, so we moved your thread here. But could you please tell us which Surface Laptop model you are using?

In general, there are two possibilities for Surface devices to overheat:

    1. The Surface is charging.
    2. The CPU is highly occupied. A service, process, or application may be running.

Can you tell us what your computer is doing when it overheats?

If the power adapter is plugged in and charging, then this is a normal phenomenon, it is recommended that you do not run highly resource-intensive applications while charging.

If this happens when you are using battery power, press Ctrl+Shift+Esc to open the task Manager and pay attention to which applications are highly CPU-intensive at this time. In addition, I recommend trying a clean boot which starts Windows with a minimal set of drivers and startup programs. It can be used to determine whether a background service or program is interfering or causing a problem.

These steps of "clean boot" might look complicated at first glance. However, to avoid any trouble for you, please follow them in order and step-by-step.

After the "clean boot" is complete, use your Surface as normal and verify that the overheating phenomenon still exists.

If you have any information you would like to add, please continue to reply to me.

    Best Regards,
