Cant connect wirelessly to Samsung / Sony TVs

So, sometime last year after an update, my SurfaceBook stopped projecting to the work's wireless TV. Mind you, I had been successfully connecting to various TVs in different offices, including my home office without problems. This was around Sept/Oct 2019. This was a Samsung Smart TV.

A month later a switched my notebook to Surface Book 2 and after maybe the first successful projection it never projected wirelessly at all.

So far i've tried all the steps here: https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows\_10-win\_continuum/cant-wirelessly-connect-to-samsung-tv/db7ade9d-b80b-431a-8927-8e2f24c2b3e9

including Network reset.

I have tried using a Sony TV and a Samsung TV. No luck.

Can you help?

    Hello, Quratulain Habib!

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Community and posting your concerns. We are sorry if your Surface Book 2 will not connect to your Samsung TV. Thanks for informing us and allowing us to help you out. Since you switched to the Surface Book 2, I assume you were not able to project your screen to any Smart TV that supports Miracast, right? If that's the case, please check the Projection Settings on your device.

    1.     Press Windows/Start and go to Settings.

    2.     Choose System, then scroll down and select Projecting to this PC.

    3.     At the Some Windows and Android devices can project to this PC when you say it's OK, please select Available everywhere.

    4.     Choose what you feel is good for you under Ask to project to this PC - First time onlyor Every time a connection is requested.

    5.     Require PIN for pairing, choose which one you want - Never, First Time, and Always

    6.     Make sure to disable the one that says This PC can be discovered for projection only when it's plugged into a power source.

    7.     Please take note of your PC name there.

Once done, please go back to the main Settings page and click on Devices.

You should be at the Bluetooth & other devices, ensure that Bluetooth is on.

Click on Add Bluetooth or other device, then select Wireless display or dock to look for your Samsung Smart TV and connect to it.

We hope this helps you out, we highly encourage you to inform our Community by clicking on Yes or marking my post as an answer. This will help other members who may have the same issue as you. Otherwise, don't hesitate to update us so we can further assist you.

    Kind regards,

    Hi Janette,

Thank you for the quick reply.

I followed all your steps, some were missing so to speak. And tried again. The only difference this time with my TV was that the laptop screen flickered as it does when getting ready for projection. After that it didnt project anything.

On the Samsung TV it says 'loading' for 30 secs or so and on my laptop it gives the standard 'Something went wrong. Your device couldn't connect'

This morning, after adding the Sony TV as a wireless display device successfully, I tried projecting again.

On the Sony Smart TV, it says 'Preparing Screen mirroring. Please wait...' while my laptop says 'Connecting to your device' then after 30-40 secs it says 'Registration failed' Please RETURN to go back' on the Sony TV. While the laptop gives the error 'Something went wrong. Your device couldn't connect'

So yes similar problems, two different TVs what do I do next?

Btw. When adding the display device to my Surface Book 2, it gives me the name 'Quratulain Habib' not 'Q-SurfaceBook2' which is the name of the device. My Bluetooth is on and except for the 'Surface Pen' and a Bluetooth Mouse nothing else is connected to it wirelessly.

    Thanks,

    Quratulain

    Hello, Quratulain Habib!

Thanks for letting us know of what happened. Also, I am really sorry for the delayed response. Can you try to go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Check for Updates? Then restart your device to apply the updates.

After that, try to go back to **Settings > Update & Security > Troubleshoot >**choose Bluetooth and run the troubleshooter.

Then try to check your device if it can project its screen to the monitor.

If it still doesn't connect, renaming your PC may work as I recall a thread I handled before wherein the issue was resolved by renaming the PC. If you need the steps, here it goes:

Settings (make sure the window is maximized) > System> About > click System infoto the far-right, which is under Related Settings.

A new window will pop-up, click on Change settings that is under Computer name, domain, and workgroup settings.

A new window will give you the option to enter the new Computer name, click Apply then OK.

You will need to restart the device to fully implement this.

Then try to project your device to your monitors.

Let me know how it goes.

    Regards,

    Janette_Z

    Hi

Thank you for your reply and sending me multiple things to do. It helps to know the myriad ways I can try to solve this problem.

    I tried all three:

    • Windows update (only security updates were present)
    • Bluetooth troubleshooting
    • Change PC name

None of them worked. Then I also went ahead and tried using another computer altogether. Turns out, that PC (a Dell laptop) is unable to register as well. That too is running windows 10 pro.

Any other ideas or 3rd party apps I can try to get around this issue?
