    Hi CadeCrowson,

Thanks for reaching out to Microsoft Community and posting your inquiry. We're sorry to hear that the Surface Pen isn't inking.

    • Run Surface Diagnostic Toolkit and check Windows Update.• Reseat the AAAA battery in the pen, and test on an app.

    • Reseat the pen tip, and test on the app.

    • Open Device Manager then go to Human Interface Devices > look for "Uninstall HID-Compliant Touch Screen" > Right-click on HID-Compliant Touch Screen > Uninstall (if you're seeing two HID Compliant Touch Screen, Uninstall the two drivers).

    • Under Human Interface Device, Right-click on Intel(R) Precise Touch Devic e and select Uninstall.

    • After uninstalling the drivers, make sure to Restart the device to give the drivers a refresh.

    • Replace the pen tip and test on the app.

If the issue continues to happen, please install andDownload the drivers and firmware for your Surface:

    • Choose Surface Pro 3 then click Download on the next page.

    • Choose the .msi file that matches your current OS Build and click Next.

    • After downloading, run and install the .msi then Restart.

Please respond to this thread to let me know how the issue progresses. Similarly, if you have more questions, please inform me by replying to this post.

    Kind regards,

    John Neil_J

I’ve tried all of these “fixes” to no avail. I do not have a surface pro 3, it is a 5th generation. I am running the most recent build of windows 10 pro. It is so recent it is not listed in the driver/firmware downloads.

the eraser button works and opens sticky notes. I’ve changed the pen tip , brand new AAAA battery shows 100%.

I even reset the operating system so its completely clean.

    pen still does not draw.

    Very frustrating

Can you write in OneNote with your finger?
Are you able to try someone else's pen on your Surface and vice versa? The most recent msi 18362 is for builds 18362 and higher.
