Surface Laptop Studio not outputting 4k @ 60Hz

Hello,

So I have a Surface laptop studio as well as the surface dock 2. My goal is to use a cable to connect from either one to the back ports on the dock or the laptop itself to an HDMI port on my monitor and achieve 4k at 60Hz.

I have tried multiple different USB-C to HDMI cables that state they can do 4k 60Hz with no luck. I only get 30Hz. These cables state that they should work with Thunderbolt 4.

My question is, is the cable the problem and its not the correct one or does the laptop need some sort of software/driver update to be able to use the cable correctly?

As a test I have tried a USB-C to Display port cable and had no issues getting 4k 60Hz. I also know that the HDMI port I am using does support HDMI 2.0 so it will take 4K at 60Hz.

Please let me know!

Thanks

Daniel

    Hello Daniel.m777,

Thanks for reaching Microsoft Community. We understand how important this set up for you. We'll do our best to help.

In this case, please be informed that Surface Dock 2 supports dual 4K at 60Hz but does not support Thunderbolt 4. This might be the reason if you're using a cable with USB 4.0/Thunderbolt 4. Try using a regular USB-C to HDMI cable and see if it works.

Otherwise, you might want to check the methods on Troubleshoot connecting Surface to a second screen (microsoft.com).

I hope this helps. Feel free to respond on this thread to let us know how it goes.
