How do I fix my HP laptop Microsoft photos to download

I have never had a problem with downloading photos from my SD card or Camera until today.

Comes up saying:

“We couldn’t reach your device”

“Please reconnect your device and try again. A notification has been sent requesting you to allow Microsoft photos to access and import your photos.”

I’m not receiving a notifications for this.

I have tried turning it off updating all the apps and computer, spoke to HP for an hour they couldn’t find anything on the laptop and are saying it’s a Microsoft issue. Does anyone know how I can fix this ASAP, I am a photographer and need to be able to download photos to edit them for my clients.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you!

    Hi La Pearl Photography Taylah,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

Here are several steps to troubleshoot the issue of Microsoft Photos failing to recognize your device for importing photos:

    • Ensure Device Access Permissions
    1. Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera.
    2. Ensure that Microsoft Photos has permission to access your camera and files.
    3. Repeat this for Settings > Privacy & Security > Pictures and Videos and ensure Microsoft Photos has the necessary permissions.
    • Ensure Your Device is Detected:
    1. Connect your SD card or camera to the laptop.
    2. Open File Explorer and check if your device (SD card or camera) appears in the list of available drives.
    3. If it doesn't show up, there may be an issue with the connection (e.g., USB port, cable, or SD card reader).
    4. You might also want to try another USB port or cable.
    • Check Device Manager for Issues
    1. Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
    2. Look for your camera or SD card reader under Portable Devices or Disk Drives.
    3. Right-click and select Update Driver or Uninstall Device (and then restart your computer to reinstall it).
    4. This could help if there’s a driver issue preventing the device from being detected.
    • Reset Microsoft Photos
    1. Go to Settings > Apps > Apps & features.
    2. Scroll down to Microsoft Photos, click on it, and select Advanced options.
    3. Scroll down and click Reset.
    • Use File Explorer for Importing:

As a workaround, you can manually copy photos:

    1. Open File Explorer and navigate to your SD card or camera.
    2. Copy the photos directly to your laptop.

Let me know if you need further assistance or if any of these steps resolved the issue!

    Your Sincerely
