Hi La Pearl Photography Taylah,
Welcome to Microsoft Community.
Here are several steps to troubleshoot the issue of Microsoft Photos failing to recognize your device for importing photos:
- Ensure Device Access Permissions
- Go to Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera.
- Ensure that Microsoft Photos has permission to access your camera and files.
- Repeat this for Settings > Privacy & Security > Pictures and Videos and ensure Microsoft Photos has the necessary permissions.
- Ensure Your Device is Detected:
- Connect your SD card or camera to the laptop.
- Open File Explorer and check if your device (SD card or camera) appears in the list of available drives.
- If it doesn't show up, there may be an issue with the connection (e.g., USB port, cable, or SD card reader).
- You might also want to try another USB port or cable.
- Check Device Manager for Issues
- Press Windows + X and select Device Manager.
- Look for your camera or SD card reader under Portable Devices or Disk Drives.
- Right-click and select Update Driver or Uninstall Device (and then restart your computer to reinstall it).
- This could help if there’s a driver issue preventing the device from being detected.
- Reset Microsoft Photos
- Go to Settings > Apps > Apps & features.
- Scroll down to Microsoft Photos, click on it, and select Advanced options.
- Scroll down and click Reset.
- Use File Explorer for Importing:
As a workaround, you can manually copy photos:
- Open File Explorer and navigate to your SD card or camera.
- Copy the photos directly to your laptop.
Let me know if you need further assistance or if any of these steps resolved the issue!
Your Sincerely
