Anyone run into a problem where plugging in headphones no longer works?

I plug my headset in, and it doesn't switch, and when I bring up the playback devices, it's report nothing is plugged in.

I don't often use headsets on my Surface Book, but occasionally I do. It was probably over a week ago it worked, not, it's not...

Thoughts?

OK, as an update, I got it working, thanks to Oliver at MS Support.

It's an odd one, but essentially, these are the steps I took:

    1. Go to Device Manager
    2. Open up "Sound, Video and Game Controllers"
    3. Uninstall the "Realtek High Definition Audio (SST)" driver, BUT not remove the driver. Once done, DO NOT reboot yet.
    4. Go to Windows Update, and check for updates. Interestingly for me it found a "System Hardware Update for 11/2/2015".
    5. Now do an "Update and Shutdown".
    6. Oliver had me hold the Volume Up with the Power button. Not sure if that did anything though, since that just left me at the BIOS screen. Once in there, I just clicked on Restart, and booted up normal.

That's it... Once back in the headphone jack was working. Not sure what happened to cause the issue in the first place. Weird.

Hope that helps anyone else who runs into this odd issue.

Audio and video operated properly using built in speakers, but when I plug my Sony MDR-V700 headset in to the audio out port of the Surface Book both audio and video will not function and report errors. Headset is acknowledged by hardware detection, but sound will not divert to headset and audio and video software quit working. HELP?

I have a pair of Bose noise reduction headphones. They always worked fine straight out of the box with my old Dell laptop running 8.1. On the Surface, the headphones work fine but nothing gets recorded through the microphone. I downloaded the latest Realtek drivers and rebooted, and checked that the headset microphone is being recognised as the current default microphone, but when I try to use the microphone no sound gets recorded. Am I doing something wrong?

Maybe Bose has come out with some newer model headphones, but none of the ones that I'm aware of have a user accessible microphone in them.  They do have microphones in order to do noise cancellation, but they're not wired to output to a computer.
