No Clip surface pen will not ink on Surface Pro 7+

Hi. I am and IT support technician working for a school. We are rolling out surface pro 7+ devices to all teachers. The teachers will be using the no clip surface pen with the Surface pro 7+. I have read they are compatible.

The pen has been tested on a previous surface model so I know there is no fault with the Pen. All surfaces are brand new and imaged from the domain.

I can connect the pen via bluetooth. It will also open snip and sketch if I double click.

It will not ink though. Not on any compatible app. I have tested it on a surface pro 2 and have full functionality.

I would be grateful for any help as the end users require the pen to have full functionality on their surface pro 7+ devices to teach their lessons this September

Thank you

Simon

First, Surface Pens do not need to be paired via Bluetooth to write. This pen definitely works with my SP7+.

You mention these are imaged from the domain. Your custom image may not contain the necessary Surface specific drivers. Try running the appropriate MSI from Download Surface Pro 7+ Drivers and Firmware from Official Microsoft Download Center on one of these devices (there is one for Windows 10 and on for Windows 11). If this fails to resolve the issue, go to https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=46703 and download

Surface_Diagnostic_Toolkit_for_Business. You can run this in desktop mode and run all or selective tests. See https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/surface/surface-diagnostic-toolkit-desktop-mode.

    Let us know results.
