It has been a while since the mouse was keeps getting stuck on the left side of the screen, unable to use the touchpad. Today I decided wipe it out and do a fresh install and …. still doing the same thing on a fresh Windows 10 Version 1803. Before, a reboot or two sometimeswould fix the problem now it's stuck on the left side. Plugged in an external mouse and I can move sort of second mouse around with that circle on the left side and with a flashing mouse inside ... extremally annoying.

Thank you for the update, Enrique. Let's see if this is a touchscreen issue. The touchscreen may be registering a touch or input on the left side of the screen, preventing you from getting around with the touchpad. To temporarily disable the touchscreen, follow these steps:

    1. Open Device Manager (Windows key + X > Device Manager).
    2. Expand Human Interface Devices.
    3. Right-click on HID-compliant touch screen and choose Disable.
    4. If prompted, choose Yes.

Once the touchscreen has been disabled, try using your touchpad and check if you'll be able to move the cursor around. If it works, then we would need to troubleshoot the touchscreen issue further so you can keep using the touchpad with the touchscreen enabled. If you want to re-enable the touchscreen, simply go back to Device Manager and Enable the HID-compliant touch screen.

I'll be waiting for your next updates.

    Hi Enrique,

For us to resolve this problem, we may need to perform several troubleshooting steps. I noted that you did a fresh install of Windows on the Surface. Was it done using a recovery image? In case you did not use a recovery image, we may try this later on. For now, please download and run the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit. This will get the latest driver and firmware updates on your device, and also check for possible software issues. For more information and to download the tool, go here.

After running the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit, perform a forced shutdown then restart the Surface. While it is on and while the cursos is stuck, press the power button for 10 seconds or until the screen goes off. On your next restart, the Surface will be able to apply the new updates and reload the software properly.

If there are no changes, let's check if this is a hardware issue. Boot into the Surface UEFI and check if the cursor will be stuck in this environment. To get to the UEFI, switch off your device. Once the Surface is completely off, press and hold the volume-up button then press and release the power button. When you see the Surface logo, you can release the volume-up button. Using the touchpad, try to move around the UEFI screen. Observe if the cursor will get stuck. If it does get stuck, then the problem is related to hardware. It would be best that you reach out to the Microsoft Support team or visit a Microsoft Store with the Surface with you. They will be able to assist you regarding hardware problems.

If the cursor works fine in UEFI, then we would have to continue troubleshooting the software. Please update this post with your findings. I will be notified when you reply and I will get back to you the soonest I can so we can resolve the issue.

    Regards.

Understood, I'll use the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit. In the meanwhile, ( not at home at the moment ) I did boot UEFI  before and the mouse worked just fine. Also, I did not use the recovery image since I tried it before and did not solve the problem, so growing frustrated I disabled UEFI and loaded an MSDN image... still the same problem.

Thank you for the quick follow up, I will work on it tonight and report back.

    Regards,

    EG

Ran the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit it completed quickly in minute or so. It asks to restart and once,  it does it says it shows a successful message however still it doesn't fix the issue.
