Microsoft Surface makes high-pitched noise when charging

Whenever the Surface is plugged into a wall, it makes a quiet but extremely annoying high-pitched noise that's comparable to the squeaking noise of a tightly closed thermos bottle. The noise goes away if the Surface is fully charged and is left idle for a couple hours, but comes back when it is being used again. This only happens when the device is plugged in and the volume and pitch change depending on how it's being used (eg. scrolling down a web page gives a louder, higher pitched noise than looking at an unchanging screen). My guess is this is a defect in the device and may need to get repaired or replace. Is there any other possibility?

Thanks.

    Hi there Commander Fresh.

Sorry to hear you are having issues with your audio on Surface. To clarify, when you connect Surface to the power supply, you hear noises comparable to squeaking; furthermore, depending on how you engage with Surface, affects which sounds you hear, correct?

Does this occur both from the speakers and through headphones?  Has Surface always behaved this way? If you mute Surface, do you still hear the sounds? Do you have any other audio playing on Surface when this occurs?

Thanks in advance for your follow up, I hope to find a solution for you.

    Kindest Regards.

    Hi there Commander Fresh.

Hi Jordana, thanks for your response. What you've listed here is correct. However, the squeaking noise does not come from the speakers; it comes from inside the device itself. Needless to say, the noise continues when speakers are muted, but does not pick up in head phones (the noise continues outside of the headphones). Any audio that plays through the speakers or headphones do not make the noise go away (but it does affect the volume, pitch and to an extent, the tone colour of the noise). The Surface has been behaving like this since day 1 of using it. Any ideas on what may be wrong?

    Thanks in advance
