The fan in my surface pro 8 is making a grinding noise. Can I send it in for replacement along with getting a new battery installed?

The cooling fan makes a grinding noise when it is operation. When I move the angle of the surface when this is happening the noise gets louder and softer depending on the position. I assume the bearing is failing in the fan?

The battery also has been Inservice for 4 years now, should I be replacing the battery when it is service to replace the fan?

I would like to have the fan replaced, and also replace the batteries while it is opened up.

    Hello Steve,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

If you know for sure that you will hear any abnormal noise in the device after the Surface Pro 8 has started normally, turn the device off and do not continue to use it, it could be that the Surface Pro 8 has debris inside, or mechanical failure.

I recommend that you immediately send your device to the Surface technical support team for inspection and repair of your Surface, as well as a battery replacement (remember to mention this when submitting your repair order).

I can direct you to Surface live support who can assist you in creating a repair order, as follows:

    1. Use your personal Microsoft account (not your organization account) to access the following links:

    Contact - Microsoft Support

    1. Type Surface, press Enter, and click "Contact Support" at the bottom:

    1. Select Technical Support and select the device model you are currently using in Produce family, then click Confirm:

    1. You will see contact options for Chat support and Phone support, please contact them during business hours:

I wish you all the best.

    Best Regards,
