Would it be possible to use the surface dock 2 to run a dual monitor setup with an ultrawide 3440x1440 monitor and a 1920x1080 monitor with the surface laptop 2 i5? I know that's a lot of pixels to be pushed so I thought I would ask.

    Hello Cody Michael Bullington,

Thanks for posting your concern here.

Surface Laptop 2 can project it's display to one external monitor with a max refresh rate of 60Hz and max resolution of 4096 x 2304. Same as goes for two external displays, it can project to 60Hz max refresh rate and max resolution of 4096 x 2304. See Troubleshoot connecting Surface to a second screen for more details.

    Hi Steven,

I bought a Samsung 34" Wide Screen Thunderbolt3 Curved Monitor for my Sureface2 Laptop (Surface Laptop 2 Model 1769 i7).

Reading your above post I should have no problem outputting to this single screen at the required resolution 3440 x 1440.

Sadly using the Surface Mini Display Port and having purchased several Amazon adaptors (mini to HDMI) latest being the CableDecom HDMI 4K X 2K I'm stuck with a disappointing 1920 x 1080.  I read about active HDMI cables and and adaptors (I thought the CableDecom was) however, before I spend more money I'd like to understand if I'm barking up the wrong tree and there is something more fundamental here i.e. you need to use a Dock Station for example or something simple I've not done!

I have a ThinkPad X390, that was plug and play with the Samsung via its built in HDMI port i.e. the Samsung is working fine.

    Appreciate your support

    Cheers

    Andrew

    Hi Steven,

This was much appreciated, its taken a while as this is a work laptop so I needed IT support.  Anyway my screen works, it needed updates and new drivers.  Unfortunately, just this week its reverted back to 1920 x 1080, which I can only assume is the result of another update (there was an update over the weekend).  I'm back in contact with IT, although its a bit disappointing the fix wasn't permanent?  Any advice on that would be welcome.

    Cheers
