    Hello, donmcmahon1.

    Welcome to Microsoft Community!

After reading what you posted, I understand that you currently have a need to use the same keyboard on two Surface devices.

And indeed, the Surface Type Cover is able to work with the Surface Pro 7:

And one issue that is in front of us is that normally, the Surface Type Cover is not compatible with the Surface Pro 9. Since I'm not with you, I can't quickly make a determination for you. So, you will need to make sure that you are currently using a Surface Type Cover on your Surface Pro 9, and from a consumer's point of view, may not have a particularly clear understanding of the model's name of the Surface keyboard. Allow me to introduce you to it here:

The Surface Type Cover is available for the Surface Pro 7+ and earlier models. And devices after the Surface Pro 7+ use the Surface Pro Keyboard.

If you are finally sure that this is the Surface Pro Keyboard, I'm afraid it won't work perfectly with the Surface Pro 7. If it is Surface Type Cover, you can use it with Surface Pro 7 with confidence.

For the sake of rigor and to avoid unnecessary trouble, we need to confirm the current keyboard model and combine the above information to make a judgment.

I look forward to your reply here.

    Best Regards.

thanks for this info. very helpful. i have another question, please. the keyboard cover for my pro 7 is no longer functioning reliably (esp., the keypad). the retention charge of the battery on the pro 7 is also performing poorly . all suggested remedies do nothing to improve the performance. this is why im switching to the Pro 9. In order to continue to use the pro 7 (model 1866) as a back up unit, I need a new keyboard - the keyboard cover type. i want to spend as little as possible. one option is a bluetooth keyboard. Some models advertised online claim that this bluetooth keyboard cover will act as a cover for the screen. I am unable to find out if Microsoft offers this type of keyboard. Do you know if this type of keyboard can be connected to the tablet, using the magnetic strip ? thanks in advance

PS: incidentally, when i bought the Pro 7, the battery started to malfunction, 10-11 months after the date of purchase. . I submitted the machine for a replacement, under the 12 month warranty. as best as I can tell, t the same machine back. This would imply that MS service center in SE Asia (Singapore?) replaced the battery with a new one. Within 3 months of receiving the 'replacement, i have had the same problem with the battery. this is why I have given up on the Pro 7. tia. Don
