Surface Pro 8 keeps repeating booting. The Microsoft logo appears and turns off. Pressing the power-on button again repeats looping. Sometimes it boots into Windows, but after a restart it happens again. Any suggestions?

    Hi Dex_019,

We appreciate your active participation in the Microsoft Community. I apologize for any inconvenience you’re facing with your Surface Pro 8. The issue could arise from various factors, such as software glitches or hardware problems. Below, I’ve outlined steps you can take to troubleshoot and potentially resolve the issue.

    1. Perform a hard reset again: Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds, then release it and wait for 10 seconds before pressing the power button again to turn on the device.
    2. Once the device is on successfully: Make sure your Surface Pro 8 is up to date with the latest software updates. Go to Settings >Windows Update and click on Check for updates.
    3. Run the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit: This tool can help diagnose and fix common issues with Surface devices. You can download it from the Microsoft website and follow the instructions to run it.

**Note:**If your device fails to boot into Windows or the problem persists, you should download the recovery image onto your Surface device. This recovery image contains a fresh Windows operating system tailored specifically for your Surface device.

To Download USB Recovery Image -Surface Recovery Image Download - Microsoft Support

    REQUIREMENTS:

To ensure compatibility with your Surface device, it is recommended to use a USB flash drive with a minimum storage capacity of 16 GB to 32 GB and format it to FAT32. If the storage capacity exceeds 32 GB, it is not possible to format it to FAT32 as only XFAT and NTFS options are available. Please note that if a USB flash drive is formatted to XFAT or NTFS, it will not be detected on your Surface device.

NOTE: Creating a recovery drive will erase all existing files that are stored on the SSD drive. Make sure to transfer any important data on your USB flash drive to another storage device before you proceed.

Once the download is complete, create a folder on your desktop and rename it to ‘recovery’. Extract the recovery image to the folder you created on your desktop. After the extraction is complete, select all the files in the folder and copy and paste them directly to your USB flash drive. Do not copy the folder directly to the USB. Once the copying is done, remove the USB and connect it to your Surface.

When you are ready, please click this link Creating and using a USB recovery drive for Surface - Microsoft Support to follow the step on how to use the recovery image.

Thanks again for choosing Microsoft. Hope this helps!

    Kind regards,

    Christopher.

    Thanks for quick answer,

I have previously been able to install new windows. All drivers are installed. I did a hard reset, hold down the power button for 30 seconds, after that it started and booted into Windows. I checked with the Surface Diagnostic toolkit and found no errors. I did all the updates with Windows update. After closing the computer and starting it again, the same error occurs again, the logo appears and disappears and the computer turns off. After the hard reset, it starts up again and boots into Windows. Repeats the same way all the time. It won't start until I have to do a hard reset.

Any suggestions on what else to try.

Although the computer has a valid warranty, but the computer was purchased used and there is no purchase invoice. Could it be sent under warranty without a purchase invoice?

    Best Regards,

    Dex
