Mute button operating as control F search function

This is my second surface pro 3 that has randomly changed the function of my mute button on the keyboard so that it no longer mutes, but rather brings up the same search bar you see after hitting Ctrl F.  I do not need two ways of getting to that function, what I need is the ability to mute my laptop. I don't understand why this happens to all my surface laptops and I don't know how to change it back. Someone please help!

    Hi MJ,

If the mute button suddenly stopped working, it is possible that the Fn key lock is on. To turn it off, press the Fn + Caps keys to disable it. For more information about special keys and function keys, please refer to this article.
