My Surface Pro 4 is stuck in a UEFI boot loop

My device was working perfectly well until last night, but when I tried to switch it on today, it showed the Surface logo like normal (but it was blinking this time) and directly just opened the Surface UEFI. I went to the Exit section where it said I could exit the settings by clicking the Restart button below, which I did. But when it restarted, it again opened up the same UEFI page. I tried disabling Secure Boot and also tried the 30 seconds power and the two button reset thing but they didn’t work either. Any way to fix this?

    Hi Meera,

So your Surface Pro 4 is stuck to booting to the UEFI, When you restart, it boots back to the UEFI.

I have had this issue before as well.

    Mine was fixable.

I will try and help you with this issue.

Is your device able to boot from a USB? - Your OS (operating system) may be corrupt.

Only continue if you are OK with all data being erased from the device

    - - - -

Here are the steps to reset your device:

    You will need:

    • A working device
    • A USB Stick (At least 16GB)

    Steps to reset:

    1. Download the recovery image from here
    2. Plug your USB into the device
    3. Press the windows icon (bottom right)
    4. Type recovery drive
    5. Press yes when prompted
    6. Uncheck the Backup system files box
    7. Press next
    8. Select the USB Drive
    9. Press next
    10. Unzip the Recovery Image
    11. Drag and drop all the files from in the downloaded and unzipped folder into the USB
    12. When/if prompted, press replace file/s in destination
    13. When it's done, boot from that USB on the device you want to recover
    14. Continue with the installation

    Cheers!

Thank you! Before I try this, is there any way to recover my files or are they really gone forever (haha)? I ran out of space on OneDrive so only some of my files are synced to it.

    Try a two button reset:

Step 1:    Press and hold the power button on your Surface for 30 seconds and then
    release it.

Step 2:    Press and hold the volume-up button and the power button at the same
time for at least 15 seconds and then release both.
The screen may flash the Surface logo, but continue holding the buttons
down for at least 15 seconds.

Step 3:    After you release the buttons, wait 10 seconds.

Step 4:    Press and release the power button to turn your Surface back on. You
    should see the Surface logo.

Try the two button reset above first.
