My Surface Pro7 has been hacked and several popup windows appeared. One with Microsoft tech support number to call. I called and it's a scam. How can I get someone on the line to assist?

I called the number and they seem to be fraudulent as well. Told me my ip address was hacked from China and my bank info was possibly compromised. Said I needed to call the bank fraud department. That person they led me to was also a scammed. My laptop still is not fixed. I contacted my bank and they guided me through necessary steps. I need my laptop cleaned! I am a Microsoft 365 Personal home customer and just renewed my annual Microsoft services.

Someone please help.

    Hi Kricia,

Welcome to Microsoft Community. I'm sorry to hear that you've experienced this issue with your Surface Pro 7. It's important to note that Microsoft does not display pop-up windows with tech support numbers to call. These are often scams designed to trick users into giving away personal information or paying for unnecessary services. To get your laptop cleaned, I recommend that you contact Microsoft Support directly. You can do this by visiting the Microsoft Support website and selecting the "Contact us" option. From there, you can choose to chat with a support agent, or request a callback. Contact Us - Microsoft Support

When you speak with a support agent, be sure to explain the situation and provide as much detail as possible. They will be able to guide you through the necessary steps to clean your laptop and ensure that it is secure.

In the meantime, it's important to avoid clicking on any suspicious pop-up windows or giving away personal information to unknown sources.

Your Sincerely Hahn. W - MSFT | Microsoft Community Support Specialist

    Hi Kricia,

A reset may help you out. You can learn more at Restore or reset Surface for Windows - Microsoft Support.

After you get this sorted out, there is a new Scareware blocker feature in Edge that helps prevent these types of scams from appearing. You may want to consider this once you get your system back to how it was.

Stand up to scareware with scareware blocker, now available in preview in Microsoft Edge - Microsoft Edge Blog

    Hope this helps,

    Greg
