Surface Pro X HDMI Out plays video but no audio

When I try to connect my Surface Pro X to my TV or A/V Receiver, I am able to use the TV screen as a second monitor (or mirror display) however the sound does not play on either the TV (when the HDMI cable is connect to my TV) or the receiver (when the HDMI is connected to my A/V receiver).

The Sound settings show two devices Speaker Surface Qualcomm Aqstic and my TV or Receiver name but the driver is the same Surface Qualcomm Aqstic. Also when I switch the output to the TV or Receiver device, there is no sound. When I switch back to the Surface speakers, I can hear the sound.

I tried to disable and enable the TV/Receiver device from device manager and update driver but there is no difference in the situation and the problem persists. Any suggestions is most welcome.

    Hi SUBIND,

Thank you for reaching out to Microsoft Community.

Please follow these steps to troubleshoot the issue:

Open Control Panel > Hardware and Sound > Sound

Under Playback tab, see if the Digital Output Device (HDMI) is on the list

If not, right-click on an empty area on the page and checked Show disabled devices and Show disconnected devices options

Once you have the Digital Output Device (HDMI) on the list, right-click on it if it shows disabled then choose Enable

Once enabled, select then click Set as default > Apply

Try then to play a sound and see audio will now come from the TV speaker

If still issue persist, please see this page for more details to Fix sound problems in Windows 10.
