Surface devices do not have video IN capability via any kind of cable. They support video OUT, which you used with a TV successfully. Sorry. As for connecting wirelessly with wireless display (Miracast), some apps/sites (Netflix comes to mind) don't work with copy protected content very well.
"Protected content can't be viewed on this device" Can't even connect with cables
I have been trying for a long time now to get my Surface Pro 5 to detect my laptop so I can use the SP5 as a second monitor, but it doesn't work. My SP5 shows "Protected content can't be viewed on this device" and I have been searching all of the internet, trying every way to fix it with drivers, firewalls, settings, etc. Just not sure if there is a solid solution.
I have even tried connecting my SP5 to my laptop with HDMI cables (I needed an adapted for my SP5 ports) and nothing. Still won't detect it as a monitor. I know I had used the SP5 previously to connect to a TV so I could show something, but it's just not working anymore.
Any help would be greatly appreciated, this is extremely frustrating as I was trying to use my SP5 when I travel.

2023-06-11T20:36:26+00:00 Thank you for the clarification. So is the only way to use the surface as another monitor via a wireless connection? I have tried to troubleshoot so many times the "protected content..." error and am really disappointed that I am not able to get it to connect as I travel often and a second monitor would be helpful.
