documents folder disappeared

I just bought Surface Pro 7 very recently, not even a month. My Documents folder disappeared. I searched in several places including recycle bin but no trace of the folder of files. How do I get it back?

In this form, under topic, I am not sure where it goes. For want of better description, I put it under "display and screen."

    Hi Malathini,

Thank you for reaching out Microsoft Community.  We're sorry for the inconvenience this may have caused you.

To help you finding it, is OneDrive being set up on the Surface device?  Was it auto-backed up to OneDrive? If yes, then you can just sign in to OneDrive.live.com using your Microsoft account and check if the documents you're looking is in OneDrive.

On the other hand, if it was saved on your device local storage and you made an update, you can recover the files through restoring files from previous versions or restoring files from a back up. For details and instructions, kindly click thislink.

If this helps, please let our Community by marking this post as an answer. Otherwise, don't hesitate to respond to this thread for further assistance.

    Kind Regards,

    Hello

Thank you for your prompt response.

I have tried both Backup and Restore and Restore from previous versions. I got the same response, which is, no Backup files to restore and no previous versions to restore from.

It is not even a month since I got it. It came with Windows 10, thus no upgrade.

I have been using computers for 30 years, never encountered this kind of problem.

I have not set up One Drive before but just today I did it.

I do appreciate your time, nevertheless I would have to say the problem is not resolved.

I think it has something to do with the original software that has come with the device.

    Regards

    Malathini

    Hi Malathini,

    Thank you for your reply.

The options you saw in the link I provided are some of the  available options you can do to retrieve a missing file. One of the things you haven't tried is to download a program to help you recover the files. We can't recommend you one but it's being cited in some of the vlogs (not related to Microsoft) posted  online. You'll just have to type, "how to retrieve a missing file?" and you'll get lots of links with loads of information.

    Kind Regards,

    Crest_Z

    Hello,

Okay. I will check them. Thank you again.

Usually, I am hesitant to download files, fearing malware. My knowledge of handling technology is somewhat limited.

I'll let you know after trying them and if I am successful.

    Regards

    Malathi
