Urgent problem: Surface Book keeps losing & 'reattaching' the keyboard base in 20-30 second intervals

Hello,

I have a massive problem with my Surface Book:

All of a sudden, the device started to regularly 'lose' its connection to the keyboard / touchpad base (as if it was detached), just to show first 'Autorotate on' on the left upper screen part, then 'Attached' on the right lower screen and then re-activate the keyboard / touchpad / usb ports two to three seconds later.

This repeats in an endless loop all 20 to roughly 30 secods as long as the device is powered on.

This makes any work with the system de-facto impossible, as I only have a narrow window or about 25 seconds to type something until the keyboard ceases working again, and then I have to wait 3-5 seconds until its working again. Also, since it's completely losing its connection to the base, also the USB / mini display port are disconnected, also making work with the Surface Dock impossible.

I did follow all the instructions on this page: https://www.microsoft.com/surface/en-us/support/hardware-and-drivers/troubleshoot-surface-book-keyboard: Clean the connectors, shutdown, 2-button shutdown and also a complete reset (in fact twice, as the first had a blue screen in the middle of the process .oO).

The problem, however, persists.

What are my options? I am not sure whether I would consider this a driver or a hardware problem.

Edit - Updated with additional Info:

I just found other threads that are describing more or less the same issue:

After I finished the third reset which is currently running I will try the solutions posted in these threads and report back.

I found a temporary workaround based on one of the answers on the second page of the first thread I mentioned (either its not possible to link to answers or I couldn't figure out how to do that):

    Go to:

    1.   "Settings"

    2.   "System"

    3.   "Tablet Mode"

    4.   Set to "always ask" whether it should switch to tabled mode.

This stopped the permanent auto-witching for me.

If you can get to a Microsoft Store you would have the quickest resolution.

It makes no difference where you purchased your SB, a Microsoft Store will fix or replace it.
