power on non responsive - screen won't detach and fan noise.

I'm experiencing severeal issues with my Surface book Pro2.

  1. The laptop seldom turns on when I press the power on button on the top left corner, If I press the screen detachh button and then the power on button it starts up. This is cold boot only.
  2. Several times the screen detach won't respond at all, no error - only thing that helps is a full reboot.
  3. The fan noise is not loud, but I can hear that when the fan works the intensity goes up/down constant within 2 seconds intervals.

Any tips if this is software or hardware related?

    Hi Kenneth,

Here are some solutions you can try that may help resolve the issue.

    Force shutdown your device

    1. Press and hold the power button for a full 10 seconds, until the screen turns off, then release the power button.
    2. Press and release the power button to turn your Surface back on. You should see the Surface logo.

If that doesn't work, use this two-button shutdown process to make sure your Surface completely turns off.

    1. Press and hold the power button on your Surface for 30 seconds and then release it.
    2. Press and hold the volume-up button and the power button at the same time for at least 15 seconds and then release both.

The screen may flash the Surface logo, but continue holding the buttons down for at least 15 seconds. 3. After you release the buttons, wait 10 seconds. 4. Press and release the power button to turn your Surface back on. You should see the Surface logo.

    Run the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit

This will automatically install any missing driver and firmware updates for your device. Click **here**to learn how to run the toolkit. After running the toolkit, force shutdown and restart your device to ensure all updates are applied. You may need to do this more than once.

Clean the connectors on your Surface Book

    1. Detach the Clipboard from the keyboard.
    2. Clean the pins on the connector with a pencil eraser. Rub the eraser back and forth across the pins.
    3. Wet a cotton swab in rubbing alcohol. Clean the pins on the long, narrow part of the charger that you plug into your Surface. Rub the cotton swap back and forth across the pins. After you are done cleaning the connector pins, make sure that the pins are dry, and then reattach the Clipboard to the keyboard.

Also, try to detach the Clipboard in UEFI. This will help you determine if the issue is hardware related. Click here on how to get in to UEFI.

If none of the solutions work, we suggest that you take your device to a Microsoft Store near you and have it checked by one of our personnel. You may also contact our Microsoft Support team for further assistance. If you're outside the US, contact our Global Customer Service.

Feel free to post back if you have any other concerns.
