Microsoft IPP Class Driver not working correctly

Hi, on my new Surface Pro 11 Snapdragon, I cannot install the original Brother printer drivers, since they are not compatible with ARM processors.

Windows recognises my Brother printer and installs it with the generic Microsoft IPP Class Driver. However, using that printer driver, all pages are scaled to half size and print sideways.

What options do I have to print from my Surface Pro to my Brother printer? It's a MFC-J4620DW. I realize I won't be able to use the scanning features, since these require the full Brother software tools, but I expect that with the generic driver provided by Microsoft, I should at least be able to print an A4 page correctly, instead of it being reduced to A5 and printed sideways with the other half of the page blank.

ideas welcome.

    Hi Taylyn,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

The Microsoft IPP Class Driver can sometimes lead to formatting issues when used with certain printers, as it is a generic driver. You are right, Windows Fax and Scan isn’t available. This feature isn’t available on a Windows 11 Arm-based PC.

You could try Adjust Print Settings in the IPP Driver:

    1. Go to Settings > Devices > Printers & Scanners.
    2. Select your Brother printer and click Manage > Printing preferences.
    3. Check the paper size, orientation, and scaling options:
    4. Ensure that the paper size is set to A4.
    5. Set the orientation to Portrait.
    6. Disable any scaling or shrink-to-fit options.
    7. Test printing a document again.

I hope this helps. If there is anything not clear, please do not hesitate to let me know.

    Your Sincerely

Someone posted that the old Windows Scan app Scanners that work with Microsoft ARM processer - Microsoft Community is working.

I have checked all that. All the settings are correct. Still it prints A4 as an A5 size and sideways, leaving the other half of the page blank.

It does the same thing on other computers, so it's not a computer setting, it's a problem with the generic Microsoft IPP Class Driver

Please advise how to fix it.

Hi Barb, thanks for your reply. Scanning is not my main issue. Just being able to print would be nice.

I've seen other complaints about the IPP driver on Snapdragon for other brand printers. If you file Feedback and share the link, I can forward to some Surface folks and see if they can escalate.
