I have the Surface Book 2 13 inches 128 SSD with the surface pen. In the middle of the screen, there seems to be a dead zone that the pen will not register over. It horizontally across the entire middle of the screen. It's about half an inch of space where the pen will not draw. I have tried cleaning my screen, restarting my computer, updating the drivers, and completely reconnecting the pen to my laptop.

    Hi SilvestreSaucedo,

We appreciate raising this concern to us. For us to isolate the issue, please answer the following:

    • What is the version of the Surface Pen?
    • Were there any changes made prior to this issue?
    • Have you tried to use your hand/finger on the screen, if the issue still exist?

For the meantime, you may try the following steps that may help fix the issue.

    • Try pairing the Surface Pen with your Surface device again.
    • Test the LED functionality. If the LED doesn’t come on, this is a power issue.
    • Run Windows Updates or the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit.
    • Restart your Surface device, even if it restarted during Windows Updates.
    • Replace the battery of the Surface Pen.

    Refer to this article.

If the issue still exist, we suggest to contact Microsoft Support for possible replacement for Surface Pen if needed. If you're outside the US, you can get in touch with our Global Support. You'll find the phone number for your country/region here.

    Regards,

How do you check the version of the pen?

There were no changes to the pen made prior to this happening. It came out of the box with the problem.

The touch screen works fine, the issue is only with the pen.

The latest version of the Surface Pen (v4) has a flat side and is not cylindrical all the way around. There is a small single button on the flat side that is just above the pen tip. It also has no clip.

Version 3 came bundled with the Pro 4, Book 1, and Studio. There is a flat side and a long single button that goes from the pen tip to the cap. It has a clip.
