I am experiencing this changed functionality also. I do not want my photos backed up to OneDrive! I started using Google Photos instead.
Duo 2 Photos App new change that blocks viewing photos on device?
This week my Photos app seemed to change significantly on my Duo 2 - it initially stopped showing me all my screenshot and my photos in messages. Even after "fixing" this, I am now not able to view any of my on-device photos unless they have been backed up to Onedrive which I don't unless plugged in. When I am out and about that means I can't see any of the new photos I've taken! Is this a new app update or did my settings get changed somehow? I have not selected in app to remove media off my device once uploaded. Thanks anyone who might know!

Not as simple as before, but at least you can see what is on the phone.

2023-02-20T23:41:36+00:00 Thanks for this workaround. Microsoft changed the functionality of the Photos app with the recent update. They broke it, and we should not have to do this type of process to have the same functionality as before. I will just use Google Photos because the app's functionality works properly without have to do any cumbersome workarounds to see content on the phone.
Microsoft seems to be pushing us to use OneDrive. I will not store photos in the cloud. That's my choice. And Microsoft is not going to change that, no matter how difficult they make their Photos app.
