Firmware update 10/28/14 will not install after restart

My Surface 3 will not install the update released on 10/28/14. It says "failed to install" in my Update History. I am in desperate need of this update because my Surface 3 sometimes does not recognize the Marvell AVASTAR Wireless-AC Adapter upon being awoken from sleep.

    Hi Robert,

Thank you for taking the time to reach out to us! I am sorry to hear that you are having trouble getting the 10/28/14 update. I would like to help you with that.

After finding out that the install failed, did you try restarting your device to see if the update would install successfully?

Is the device securely connected to Wi-Fi?

I would appreciate it if you could provide as much detail as possible regarding this problem.

    Hi edohikmahtiar,

Thank you for your post. I am sorry to hear that you are unable to get the update. That is concerning that even after a refresh you cannot get the update.

To confirm, have you tried getting the update using a different Wi-Fi connection and/or from a different location?

If so and you still cannot install the update, you might want to consider trying a reset.

Note: A reset reinstalls Windows and apps that came installed on your Surface. All of your personal files will be deleted and your settings will be reset. All apps that you installed will be removed. For info on backing up your files, see Back up photos, documents, and more. After a reset, you'll be able to set up Surface as if it were brand new. Make sure that you have access to the product keys and installation files for any desktop apps (for example, Microsoft Office) that you plan to reinstall after the reset. This includes desktop apps you installed from websites, discs, or USB drives.

Step 1: Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, and tap Settings.

(If you're using a mouse, point to the upper-right corner of the screen, move the mouse pointer down, click Settings.)

Step 2: Tap or click Change PC settings.

Step 3: Tap or click Update and recovery, and then tap or click Recovery.

Step 4: Under Remove everything and reinstall Windows, tap or click Get started.

Step 5: Tap or click Next.

Step 6: Choose either Just remove my files or Fully clean the drive.

The option to clean the drive is more secure, but takes much longer. For example, if you are recycling your Surface, you should choose to clean the drive. If you are keeping your Surface, you just need to remove your files.

Step 7: Tap or click Reset.

Surface restarts and the Surface logo displays while the reset process completes (this can take several minutes).

Please let me know the results.

as  I said before I have done refresh and failed, even I try to reset still failed, it is always the yellow triangle exist after firmware update (latest 10/28/2014)

and installed surface hub from store it said that "surface hub could not connect to the pen device. Either the pen driver is not installed or it is disabled. Please install or enable driver and try again." ....Well I have try to install, uninstall, disable, enable still yellow triangle on the firmware touch controller (device manager)

I'm in Indonesia, this SP3 not officially sell here, my seller (he import this SP3 from another country) have a generous act try to replace my SP3 but still the problem exist.

I cant ask to replace this anymore, so please can you help me?

I have the exact same issue. Was on the phone with tech support last night. Followed the same procedure doing a refresh. However I created only a local account. I did the first windows update, successfully. After checking windows update again, about 61 updates are available.

This time I only selected the firmware update and no other updates.

Again the firmware failed to install. At the Post screen it will try and perform the update but the progress bar will stop at 25%. Upon reboot in device manager the driver will still stay failed and request another reboot and the same thing happens.

The MS Tech support person is calling me back this evening to discuss further. Hopefully there will be a resolution. I already returned one Surface Pro 3 to fix this problem so this is is definitely not an issue unique to a single device.
