Question about CPU Monitoring for temps

So in an attempt to figure out why my mouse sticks every so often in performance mode, I thought it may be temps. So I downloaded Intel Extreme Tuning Utility to monitor temps & HWMonitor.

In the intel monitor you can see if "Current Limit Throttling" is getting hit it turns yellow if you are throttling.

This turns yellow on me every 30 seconds or so randomly. When it says current limit throttling : YES, cpu utilization is only like 9%.

I'm only typing this post and running the monitor and it's triggering throttling.

I also notice that Skype disconnects, and reconnects when it's throttling

My set up is as follows

Surface Pro i7 16g ram

Surface Dock

3 Dell U2515H monitors running 2560x1440 @ 60hz

Usb Mouse & keyboard

Is this normal or should I be returning this device?

Surface | Surface Pro | Display and screen

    Hi Greg,

We suggest comparing the readings when the Surface Pro is docked and when it's not. It will help us point out if the Surface Dock causes the unusual behavior when docking or connecting your Surface pro to it. As suggested on your other post, please check if the firmware for the Surface Dock is updated. Here's your reference in updating the Surface Dock.

If you don't see any changes after updating the Surface Dock and it gives the same results when monitoring the CPU usage on the device, please take the time to drop by a Microsoft Store to have the devices checked.

Come back if you need more help.

    Regards.

Dock is up to date. I am getting some random USB failed errors.. So I think I will bring it in... also the surface itself seems to be heating up a lot in performance mode.

It will be a pain, but I will work disconnected from the dock to see if the temps are the same. I've included a screen shoot of a temp monitor.

Do you have suggested logging tool to record system temps, that might  help you troubleshoot this?..

    Hi,

Just want to thank you for the help. I contacted support chat yesterday, they installed some updates and firmware that windows update missed.

So they are going to monitor the situation now. If anybody is wondering it was a fantastic experience, very smooth process!

    Thank you again!

    Greg

They called it the "Software Repair Tool" , also they downloaded and ran the install package for drivers and firmware.

This did not solve the issue, so they let me exchange it for a new unit. I will say I was thoroughly impressed with the process.. Top level support and service online and in the store!

Sadly, while installing visual studio 2017 last night I hit 99c a few times! At least the fan came on with this unit.

My question is should these even allow themselves to get to this temp? Is hitting 99c while installing software a sign something is wrong? It was not plugged in, just set up on my table installing my software.

I do want to add something positive, because I'm sure MS will solve this! This machine is AWESOME!!! It's driving 3  25" 1440p monitors , visual studio , sql server, IIS  , browsers and skype call.. all without slowing down one bit!!
