Why does the Surface Go 3 let you install and pair a Surface pen even though they are incompatible?

Why does my Surface Go 3 let me install and pair a Surface pen if they are incompatible and the pen cannot be used with this Surface? That is stupid. I spent quite a lot of time installing updates and troubleshooting only to finally get the answer that they are incompatible. What a waste of time.
