It appears that when I disconnected my screen recently and put it back on that I lost my keyboard, mouse & track pad capabilities. I now can't do anything.I tried the holding of power and volume up button to reboot numerous times and still doesn't work. It boots and I get to the desktop screen and MS Teams launches but I can't do anything.

Any suggestions? Anyway to launch in safe mode or to get me mouse capabilities to launch other applications so I can run virus protction or restore something?

    Hi, MarioJuliana!

Thanks for reaching Microsoft Community and posting your inquiry here regarding your keyboard, mouse, and trackpad that stopped working. Thank you for letting us know about it and allowing us to help you out.

Please allow us to ask these questions to clarify things:

    • What is the exact Surface model you have? Since you mentioned you disconnected your screen and categorized it under Surface Laptop 2. Press Windows/Start then type msinfo32 to obtain the System Model.
    • Do you use an external mouse or are you referring to the touchpad below the keys of your Type Cover?

In the meantime, here are the steps that will help you out for Type Cover issues (keyboard and touchpad wont work):

    • Check if there is no debris, damage, or anything that may inhibit a connection after disconnecting your Type Cover.

If the Type Cover connection is dirty, we recommend cleaning the connection area with a cotton swab and rubbing alcohol (Use 95% or stronger isopropyl alcohol if possible). Wet the cotton swab with the rubbing alcohol, and rub it over the Type Cover’s connector, cleaning the pins. Make sure the pins are dry before re-attaching the Type Cover.

    1. Select Start  > Settings  > Update & security  > Recovery.
    2. Under Advanced startup, select Restart Now.
    3. Under Choose an option, select Troubleshoot > Advanced Options > UEFI Firmware Settings, and then select Restart.
    4. Verify if keyboard (arrow key) allows you to progress through the menus, or the touchpad allows control of the mouse arrow.
    5. Go to Date and Time, then check if you can type in the blank field there using the Type Cover's keyboard.
    • Check for Windows Update:

Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update > Check for Updates

Please restart your device to apply the updates.

We hope this helps. Otherwise, don't hesitate to respond to this thread if there’s anything else that needs to be addressed.

    Kind regards,
