Having the same sort of issues on Windows 11 23H2 & 24H2, they work fine for a day or two then randomly start crashing or apps not loading, Keep getting taskbar not loading randomly as well!!
Surface Laptop 7 for Business (Intel) repeatedly freezing and restarting
I'm experiencing significant stability issues with my new Surface Laptop 7 for Business (Intel CPU). The device randomly freezes, requiring hard reboot, or restarts unexpectedly. These issues occur both while docked and on battery power, with no consistent pattern.
My troubleshooting so far:
- Checked Windows Update - no required or optional updates available.
- Ran Surface Diagnostics Tool - no issues detected.
- Updated Intel graphics, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth drivers.
- Disabled Panel Self Refresh in Intel Graphics Command Center.
- Successfully ran SFC and DISM repair commands.
- Downloaded and installed the latest Surface Laptop 7 firmware package.
Event Viewer consistently shows Event ID 219 errors from Kernel-PnP with error code 0xC0000365, stating "The driver \Driver\WudfRd failed to load" for device ACPI\MSHW0380.
The critical issue I've identified (with the help of AI) is that my system is missing both:
- The Windows Driver Foundation service (wudfsvc)
- The WUDFSvc.dll file from C:\Windows\System32
This missing component persists even after firmware updates and system repairs.
Technical details:
- Device: Surface Laptop 7 for Business with Intel CPU (new device)
- Windows Build: 10.0.26100.3915 (Windows 11)
- Event ID in logs: 219 from Kernel-PnP
- Error Code: 0xC0000365
Can Microsoft Support assist with restoring these missing system components or determining if this is a hardware issue requiring warranty service?
