My surface pro 8 keyboard isn't working at all and the fn and caps LEDs aren't turning on although the surface slim pen is working. I've searched it up and tried every way i have seen and nothing have worked. I have seen many individuals who have the same issue in the last 3 weeks after the last software update.

    Hi anas walid1,

Thank you for posting in Microsoft Community.

I understand that you're experiencing issues with your Surface Pro 8 keyboard. Let us work on this together. Allow me to ask some questions so we can further isolate your issue and formulate appropriate troubleshooting steps.

    • Is there a chance for you to test the keyboard to another Surface or test another keyboard on your Surface device?
    • Would you mind sharing the build version of Windows you are currently running?

Let's try a few troubleshooting steps to see if we can resolve the issue.

    1. First, please make sure that your keyboard is properly connected to your Surface Pro 8. You can do this by detaching and reattaching the keyboard. If that doesn't work, try restarting your Surface Pro 8 and then reattaching the keyboard.
    2. Confirm connectivity: If the LED lights don't turn on, there might be a hardware issue. To verify in UEFI, do the following:
      1. Turn off your Surface and wait 10 seconds.
      2. Press and hold the Volume Up button—and at the same time, press and release the Power button.
      3. You'll see the logo screen on your screen. Continue to hold the Volume Up button. Release the button when the UEFI screen appears.
      4. Press the up and down arrow keys to change what is selected on the left side menu to check if the keys work or not.

I'm hoping you can try another keyboard on your Surface to help us determine whether the issue is with the keyboard or the device itself.

I look forward to hearing from you.

    Kind regards,

    Lavenia

    Hi Lavenia,

First of all thank you for responding to my issue I really appreciate it. Unfortunately, I don't have the ability to try another surface keyboard. And for the build version of windows i am using, windows 11 23H2. I have tried every troubleshooting method you have listed above and nothing have worked.

Have you test the keyboard functionality on the UEFI settings?

If the keys are still not working in Surface UEFI, then there is more likely a hardware problem on your keyboard. I recommend reaching out our live support team to check options available for your keyboard. You may reach them by following the instructions below.

    1. Go to Contact Us - Microsoft Support
    2. Choose how you would like to get support for your Surface device.
    3. Type in the problem you need help with.

I have had the exact same experience. I have tried two different new keyboards and both have not worked. It will connect and charge the pen but button LEDS will not light up and touchpad does not work. I was thinking it was an issue with the computer itself, but if it because of a software update, why can't this be fixed on Microsoft's end?

Sophia, I have the exact same issues as you, it’s driving me mad!!! And I agree with you, why can’t MSFT fix this problem with a software update? I’m also on my second keyboard which also worked for a few days and now it doesn’t anymore…
