Surface Pro 6 won't charge or run on battery after replacement

Hello,

I have a surface pro 6 whose battery was not even lasting an hour so I decided to get a replacement. After replacing the battery, it does not charge and is stuck at 65% and if I unplug it from the adapter, it powers off immediately. The battery report tells me the battery is installed and the change capacity is 42,660mWh.

What is the cause of this and how can I fix it?

Thank you

Hey there! My name is Jason. thank you for the detailed. Your Surface likely needs battery calibration, updated drivers, or a proper connection. If that fails, the battery itself may be defective.

what you can do is to Check Battery Health with Diagnostics

Use Surface Diagnostic Toolkit (download from Microsoft site) to test battery and power components.

    Best regards

    Hello Jason,

Thank you for your response. I updated the drivers using Windows update and also tried updating the drivers using the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit. During the test, the first step after fixing the drivers is to unplug the battery but when I do, the surface immediately shuts off. The battery is being detected by the battery report generated by the "powercfg /batteryreport" command on Command prompt.

    What else can I try?

    Thank you

Hi Sohalb Perform a Full Battery Calibration

Charge your Surface fully to 100% (leave it plugged in even after 65%, for a few hours).Use your Surface until it completely drains and shuts down.

Fully charge it again without interruption to recalibrate battery sensors.

    Hi Jason,

I tried charging the battery to 100% but even after being plugged in for 6 hours, the battery remains at 65%. There isn't any battery charge limit active and energy saving is inactive as well. And if I unplug the charger, it immediately shuts down and I cannot use it on battery. (Even though it shows 65%)

    Is there anything else?

Hi Sohaib, Try Another Battery or Return the Replacement

If issues persist, your replacement battery might be faulty or incompatible. Contact the seller for a replacement or refund.
