Surface laptop stopped recognizing USB devices.

Normally, when I connect a device, there is a chime, but it's no longer present. As advised on Microsoft support page, I unchecked the automated shutdown of the USB controllers. The only detectable effect is that now my mouse is not recognized, either.

    Hello jbSMITH1,

Thanks for reaching out Microsoft Community and posting your concern here.

In this case, have you already tried setting up a USB device on your Surface before? If yes, please give these troubleshooting steps a try:

    1. **Run Surface Diagnostic Toolkit and check for Windows Update.**Restart the Surface after installing updates. Updates have fixes to common problems, or issues.

    2. Update drivers and firmware

Check what is the current OS Build of your Windows version by typing winveron the search barnear the Windows logo.

Go to **Download driver and firmware for Surface,**choose (your Surface model) then click Download.

Choose the .msi file that matches your current OS Build and click Next.

After downloading, run and install the .msi then Restart.

    3. Run System File Checker in Windows 10.

    ****Hope this helps.

    Best regards,

    StevenK
