i bought a surface book 2 about a months ago and the sd card reader has not ever worked. it shows up in the settings and devices and printers as a connected device (windows displays it as a keyboard/ USB hub with everything in the base except the sd reader. when i troubleshoot it the troubleshooting program says its an older device that does not support USB 3.0 and to plug it into a USB 2.0) but not in device manager or in file explorer. it will not recognize any sd cards and the sd cards work elsewhere. the surface is fully up to date and i have tried to install the realtek driver from the realtek site and it has not worked, as well as the Microsoft updates from the downloads, also did not work. please help

If it were me, I'd try to return for full refund and repurchase, although you seem to be outside the 30 day time limit.

Another thing to try (this is weird) but you can experiment with one of your cards, put a piece of masking tape over it to make it "thicker" - I've seen this work with microSD cards on other Surface devices (but don't know anyone who has tried it with the SD cards on the SB2.

do you even get the "ding" plug and play sound when you insert a card?

which version of Windows 10 are you running? please run

    winver

and reply with version and build shown

    > it will not recognize any sd cards

    probably a malfunctioning.

I can only confirm that the Book will not be able to boot from the SD Card Slot, but it will from USB
