Issues with Surface Pro 2017 after doing a factory reset

I Factory reset my surface pro the other day to get a fresh start with the device, after the device had completed the re-installation of windows and was done setting me up asking for you to accept windows terms and conditions, setting up a outlook account and so on. Everything was normal. When I could finally access the surface pro many things aren’t working

Things that DON’T work

  • The windows button
  • Cortana
  • Settings
  • Wi-Fi on the main screen (I can turn on the Wi-Fi via the lock screen)
  • Volume
  • Calendar
  • Notifications
  • Swiping from the right to open the settings
  • Microsoft edge (tried searching for it but it doesn’t exist)
  • Bluetooth

I can left click the windows button but when selecting, it won’t load anything.

When it goes to sleep and I click the power button or space bar to wake it up, sometimes its presenting me with a blue screen (no writing, not the blue screen of death just an empty blue screen)

The things I have done

  • Rebooted the system a second time
  • Downloaded the surface pro drivers installed them (By downloading them using another PC and a USB)
  • Using Microsoft store downloaded the updates

Things that DO work

  • Surface pen
  • File explorer
  • Microsoft store
  • Mail (I can input e-mail)
  • Swiping from the left to show recent activity
  • I can plug devices into the device and they work (mouse, USB)
  • The surface keyboard
  • Task manager

I would suggest you reinstall with a Surface Recovery image that you can download here: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/surfacerecoveryimage

It´s a known issue that this happens after a reset (from a specific build)

do another recovery, but this time do NOT select a wifi network or connect to

the Internet or say yes to getting updates until you have successfully reached

the desktop. set up with a LOCAL account (you an switch to a Microsoft account

    later

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4027068/windows-10-switch-your-device-to-a-local-account).

    Go to https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/surfacerecoveryimage   (with a

different Windows computer if yours is not working properly)  and download a

recovery image for your Surface. You will need a 16GB USB stick formatted FAT32

(use a Windows computer). Use FULL format and not quick format. Give the volume

    a name like surfboot.

Unzip/extract the recovery zip to the formatted USB stick and then-

To reset your Surface from a USB recovery drive:

Step 1:    Make sure your Surface is turned off and plugged in (hold down the power

    button for 30 seconds).

Step 2:     Insert the USB recovery drive into the USB port on your Surface.

Step 3:    Press and hold the volume-down button while you press and release the

    power button on your Surface.

Step 4:     When the Surface logo appears, release the volume button.

Step 5:    When prompted, select the language and keyboard layout you want.

Step 6:     Select Troubleshoot > Reset your PC.

If prompted for a recovery key, select Skip this drive at the bottom of

    the screen.

Step 7:     Select the target operating system you wish to reset. This

refers to the current operating system installed on your Surface.

Step 8:    Select Yes, repartition the drives, and on the next page, select Next.

Step 9:     Choose Just remove my files.

    Step 10:    Select Reset.

Surface restarts and the Surface logo displays while the reset process

continues (this can take a while).

when you have successfully done this, go to

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10 and select Update

    Now.

Then keep checking for updates, from Settings, until no further updates are

    available.

This is also happening to me. I tried following your steps Barb but they don't seem to work. Pressing the power button but holding the volume down does not prompt any special menu - just brings me to the sign in page like normal. I have found out that if I press the VOLUME UP during this process it brings me to the "Choose an option" blue screen, and if I HOLD the VOLUME UP through the surface logo then it brings to me a white UFEI page that allows me to configure boot set-up, etc.

Even when I use the Choose an option screen to select boot from USB - nothing changes, and surface powers up like normal.
