When I move my laptop I get a chime, its annoying if I am watching a film or listening to music.

Is there a way to disable the sensor? Or remove the sound?

    Hi Alan Gillard ,

Thank you for reaching out Microsoft Community.

Are you referring to the auto rotation notification?

Does it give you a pop up message when notified?

Please consider running the troubleshooting steps below to resolve the issue.

    Install optional / missing updates

Open Settings> Updates & security> Windows update> Check for updates

Download and run Surface Diagnostic Tool Kit

    https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/4037239/surface-fix-common-surface-problems-using-surface-diagnostic-toolkit

    Uninstall and Reinstall Sensor driver

    Open Device manager

    Expand Sensor

Right click the current driver and select uninstall

Hit ok and restart your Surface to reinstall the driver

Please let us know how the issue progresses.

    Best regards,

    Hi

Thank you for the reply, which is appreciated.

I believe auto rotation refers to screen display, the device sensing movement in the plane of the screen, to keep the display 'upright'.

I am referring to the fact that when the laptop senses movement - that is rotation of the device  at 90o to the plane of the screen - it gives a sound similar to a USB being inserted then removed from a port.

It is intrusive when for example you are watching a film/listening to music/communicating on skype etc etc  and you move position and the sound comes, but also, the streaming is interrupted.

    Hi Alan Gillard,

Thank you for clarifying. Are there devices connected on the Surface? Were you able to run the troubleshooting guide provided on my last response?

    Looking forward to your response.

    Dear Sir

It is difficult to describe a 3D movement by writing, please bear with me.

If my laptop is on my lap, and I raise the front edge of it, the laptop rotates about the pivot point which is the same pivot point as the screen is with the keyboard.

Every time I move the laptop it freezes the mouse, pauses, gives a chime, and settles down again. There is no screen notification, only the sound.

The pause, the sound, especially when streaming, or skyping, or even just working, is very annoying.

Is it possible to disengage this movement sensor? Or at least stop the sound?

I have carried out the diagnostic toolkit and the problem is still there: I believe it is a design feature but it is a feature I don't need.

    Thank you

    Alan Gillard
