Hello Hbossyboots,
Welcome to the Microsoft Community.
I've learned that you're experiencing issues with your Surface touchpad not working. From your update, it seems your problem has already been resolved.
There could be many reasons for this issue. Windows system errors, driver errors, third-party software compatibility problems, or hardware issues could all potentially cause this kind of problem.
If this problem occurs again in the future, I can provide you with some solutions to help you address it:
1.Update your system.
2.Force shutdown by holding the power button and then restart.
3.Download and install the drivers suitable for your Surface model using the link below.

After installing the drivers, please force shut down your Surface by holding the power button, then restart it to check if the keyboard starts working.
You can quickly determine if your keyboard or touchpad has a hardware problem by using the method below.
- Press and hold the Volume Up button—and at the same time, press and release the Power button.
- Turn off your Surface and wait 10 seconds.
- You'll see the logo screen on your screen. Continue to hold the Volume Up button. Release the button when the UEFI screen appears.
- Verify functionality:
Press the up and down arrow keys to change what is selected on the left side menu to check if the keys work or not.
Control the cursor by clicking or moving it with the touchpad.
If your keyboard remains unresponsive in the UEFI interface, this strongly indicates a hardware malfunction. As our community support is limited to technical troubleshooting, we recommend submitting a repair request through the link below for hardware-related issues:

If the keyboard works properly in the UEFI interface, the issue may lie with the system. I recommend that you first back up important data from your Surface to another device, then restore the Surface to its factory settings by creating and using a USB recovery drive.

I hope this information helps. If you have any updates, feel free to let me know—I’ll be here to help.
