Adjust power button behaviour?

When I press the power button on my new Surface Pro 3, it shuts itself down. To me this is an odd behaviour. I've had other tablets before and all of them just blanked the screen on the power-button. Is there any way to adjust this behaviour? If I set the Surface aside for a minute and know I will use it again right away, I don't want it to shut down. Especially since I'm plagued by the apparently well-known WiFi-bug. After reboot, I have to disconnect and reconnect my WiFi, otherwise the internet connection doesnt work.

Thanks @all for your input. To illustrate what I mean, I made this short very unprofessional video. It shows what behaviour I'm used to on my Envy X2. When I press the power button, it comes back on again instantly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ISzzFyolXTs&feature=youtu.be

adsant, thanks a lot, you brought me straight to the root of my question. In the power button settings on my Surface Pro 3 I have two choices: sleep and shutdown. There's a third option on my envy called "energy saving" (I'm translating from German to English here, the exact English name might be different). This option makes the Envy behave like it does. It's not available on the Surface Pro 3. So I guess my question is: Why? Is it only available on Atom-devices like the Envy?

Ok I the power button in the start screen, do you see an option to Sleep?

    If yes, check this:

Also, if you installed Visual Studio you should know this

    Could you run this command:

    powercfg /a

And post the screenshot of the results here?

What do you mean by "blanked" the screen?

When yon press the power button, can you turn your Surface back on by pressing the Windows Button?

When yon press the power button, can you turn your Surface back on by pressing the Windows Button?

Just tried it, waking it up with the windows button works. I guess that means that the power-button sends the Surface into hybernate instead of shutting it down? Anyawy, my question basically remains. Can I change that behaviour? It takes a few seconds to wake up from hybernate and after that the WiFi is still connected but not working properly.

On my HP Envy X2 I could press the power button and the screen would go black. If I pressed it again, the system was there again instantly. Is that something the Surface Pro 3 can also do? Or is this in some way specific to the Envy becuause of it's Atom-processor?

    Thanks for your patience ;-)

If that's working it means that the power button is sending your device to connected standby as it is supposed. That's not hibernation. Answering your question. The system is doing what you are asking and you won't get anything faster than that. At least on this machine. Be sure that you have applied all windows updates. There was one released last month that improved the boot process.

You can change what the power button does in the Power Options menu -- easiest way to get there is hit Window Key + X -- then choose Power Options (third from the top of the menu that results).  On the left side of the screen click on "Choose what the power button does" and make sure it is set to Sleep, not Shut Down. I've tried on my SP3 and it goes black and comes back on basically instantly in short order.  If I leave it in sleep for an extended period of time I do notice the "Surface" boot up screen but it still comes up quickly.

    Hope this helps.
