Adjust power button behaviour?

When I press the power button on my new Surface Pro 3, it shuts itself down. To me this is an odd behaviour. I've had other tablets before and all of them just blanked the screen on the power-button. Is there any way to adjust this behaviour? If I set the Surface aside for a minute and know I will use it again right away, I don't want it to shut down. Especially since I'm plagued by the apparently well-known WiFi-bug. After reboot, I have to disconnect and reconnect my WiFi, otherwise the internet connection doesnt work.

Thanks @all for your input. To illustrate what I mean, I made this short very unprofessional video. It shows what behaviour I'm used to on my Envy X2. When I press the power button, it comes back on again instantly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ISzzFyolXTs&feature=youtu.be

adsant, thanks a lot, you brought me straight to the root of my question. In the power button settings on my Surface Pro 3 I have two choices: sleep and shutdown. There's a third option on my envy called "energy saving" (I'm translating from German to English here, the exact English name might be different). This option makes the Envy behave like it does. It's not available on the Surface Pro 3. So I guess my question is: Why? Is it only available on Atom-devices like the Envy?

Ok I the power button in the start screen, do you see an option to Sleep?

    If yes, check this:

Also, if you installed Visual Studio you should know this

    Could you run this command:

    powercfg /a

And post the screenshot of the results here?

    Raymond -

Check out the YouTube video link -- shows the behavior of my SP3 which I believe matches your Envy -- you'll note that my SP3 is joined to a business domain which requires password (I use a picture password) for unlocking from sleep, but other than that it is the same.

I noticed CTitatnic's reply which is a bit of a longer way to get to the same changes I believe I suggested in my original post.  If that isn't working for you I would default to the "do you have any updates pending" comment, though I'm guessing you are savvy enough to have done this already.

What I can say, is that the behavior I noticed in your video is like the behavior I see when I power down and power on my SP3.  In addition to the video link, I've got a screen capture of my power settings.

    Hope this helps.

You nailed it. I do indeed have Visual Studio Express 2013 installed. I just deactivated Hyper-V as  described in the other thread you linked and now Surface will sleep as I expected it to. I hope for a more permanent solution from MS though, I do use the Windows Phone emulator and having to activate and deactivate Hyper-V is not a very elegant solution.

Thanks a lot, at least I now know what the issue was. I would never have thought about VS causing this, thanks again.
