It appears sometimes, but not always, completely randomly.

Windows Surface Pro 9, up to date.

Anyone else?

    Hello Carmen,

Thank you for posting Microsoft Community.

I understand that you're experiencing issues with the smart charging option on your Surface Pro 9. Allow me to ask some questions to know more about this in details.

    • Do you mean the option to pause smart charging doesn't show in the Surface app?
    • Which Surface Pro 9 configuration do you have, the Intel or 5G (SQ3)?

When smart charging is turned on, your battery discharges and limits its maximum charge to 80%. A heart icon will appear over the battery icon in the system tray to let you know smart charging is active and on. If the option to Pause smart charging in the Surface app is not showing, that means that the smart charging is not active.

Here's how to pause smart charging when it is active.

    1. Select Start and open the Surface app.
    2. When the app is open, select Smart chargingCharge to 100%. Smart charging will be paused until your Surface needs to turn in on again.

For more information, see Smart charging on Surface - Microsoft Support.

If you’re still unable to find the option to turn off smart charging, try updating the Surface app to the latest version and check again.

    Kind regards,

    Lavenia

This is still an ongoing issue with Surface Pro 8... it is not showing the box to turn in off inside the Surface app.
