i have a surface pro and have been having troubles with my type cover being connected.  It also would never read my type cover when it was raised up, only in flat position.

I uninstalled the device hoping that if i reinstalled it, that would fix the problem, however now I cant work out how to reinstall it.  Then i thought if i could download the driver that would do it, but having trouble locating exactly what i need. I have tried downloading the windows 10 drivers but i cant install manually on surface pro....??

if anyone has any ideas how to reinstall my type cover, that would be appreciated.  I have windows 10

Sometimes just completely shutting down a Surface and restarting (with the typecover attached) will get the driver reinstalled. If not, we need more info.

Which Surface Pro do you have. If you run

    msinfo32.exe

it will tell you what Surface Pro. Please reply with that information

    Then, run

    winver

and reply with the build number

With these two pieces of info, we can help you download drivers.

    Hi Barb

I have tried shutting down and restarting but to no avail.

just to be clear, i uninstalled the device not just the driver - was following directions from a community post.

i have surface pro3 with build no. 16299.192

    thanks

    Kristina,

First step is to go to https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/detail... and download and run the latest available MSI which is SurfacePro3_Win10_15063_1704002_0.msi.

After running the MSI and restarting, run the Surface Diagnostic Toolkit https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/403723...

This should get drivers installed and fix issues.

If this does not work, it isn't a driver problem. If you are in the USA, I suggest you go to the closest physical retail Microsoft Store and have them test https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/store/locations... - if outside the US, can you find a friend/co-worker with a Surface Pro 3 tablet and swap covers for half an hour and test ?

Hope this helps. Please DO mark as Answer if it was of assistance.
