HP ENVY 32 32" Media Display with Bang & Olufsen 2560 x 1440 | Displays in 1920x1080 with Surface book

Hello,

I recently purchased a refurbished monitor ("HP ENVY 32 32" Media Display with Bang & Olufsen 2560 x 1440 HDMI Display Port 1").

Once I connected the display to my Surface Book (first gen) via a display port cable the resolution on the monitor maxes out at 1920x1080 rather than full 2560x1440. I used a friends LG laptop and connected via an HDMI cable and the desired resolution of 2560x1440 was displayed on the monitor. Thus, I am thinking that this is an issue with my surface book.

Any help would be much appreciated.

David

    Hi Nicaboye,

External monitor issues with the Surface Book can be caused by several factors. We suggest that you ensure your Surface Book has the latest updates installed. Also, check the firmware version installed on your monitor. You can go to your monitor manufacturer’s website to learn how to find your monitor’s firmware version, and make sure it's up to date.

Furthermore, some DisplayPort video issues can be resolved by disabling “MST mode” or “DP1.2 mode” on your monitor. Please refer to the owner’s manual that came with your monitor to learn how. If your monitor supports DisplayPort, we recommend that you use a Mini DisplayPort-to-DisplayPort cable, see if it helps.

Give us an update, and let us know if you have any additional concerns.

    Regards.

    Hi Voun,

    Thank you for the reply.

I have ensured that my Surface Book has the latest updates, that my monitor also has the drivers all up to date as well. I am using a Mini DisplayPort-to-DisplayPort cable, I have also tried using this setup with a surface dock as well with no luck. Lastly I did go into the monitor's settings and changed DP1.2 to DP1.1 all with no luck.

Do you have any other suggestions? Would purchasing a hdmi to mini display port adapter help? To see if it is a problem with my display port?

    Best,

    D

There's always a possibility that the problem might be on the Mini DP-to-DP adapter you're currently using. If possible, try using your friends HDMI adapter and verify if it works before you buy anything.

If issue persists, we suggest that you go to the nearest physical retail Microsoft Store and have them take a look at the issue.

    Regards.

    Hi Voun,

Confirming that I tried to use an HDMI cord to mini Display Port with the same result. A friend of mine suggested forcing the Surface Book to use the integrated graphics card rather then the Nnvidia graphics card but he could not find the dashboard to the integrated graphics card. At this point I think I will need to bring this into the store as it is well beyond my technical capabilities. Frustrating that it is this hard to get a premium laptop to simply display the correct resolution on a monitor.
