Dear Microsoft Support Team,

I am writing to request assistance regarding an issue with my Surface Laptop 4. Earlier today, I shut down the computer using the standard shutdown option. However, when I attempted to power it back on, it failed to boot.

Here are the details of the issue:

  • Symptoms: The screen remains completely black; no startup Windows logo or messages appear.
  • Troubleshooting Attempted:
    1. I tried pressing the shutdown button in combination with the F4 key as per online guides.
    2. I connected the computer to a power supply, and while the cable light turns on, the computer itself remains unresponsive.
    3. I have disconnected all accessories from the device.
  • Relevant Context: At the time of shutdown, the computer was connected to an external monitor via a USB-C cable. I am unsure if this is related to the issue, but I thought it might be worth mentioning.

This is my primary computer, and I rely on it heavily for my work. The inability to use it is causing significant disruption, and I would greatly appreciate your guidance on resolving this issue as soon as possible.

Please let me know if you require additional details or diagnostic information to assist in troubleshooting.

Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.

Dan

    Hi Dan,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I'm sorry to hear about the trouble you're experiencing with your Surface Laptop 4. Here are a few steps you can try to resolve the issue:

    • If recharging your Surface didn’t wake it up:
    1. Connect to a keyboard or use an integrated keyboard.
    2. Press the Windows logo key  + Ctrl + Shift + B.

If your Surface doesn't turn on at all, your device needs to be sent to Microsoft for repair or replacement. For more details, check How to get service or repair for Surface - Microsoft Support.

I hope one of these steps helps get your Surface Laptop 4 back up and running!

    Your Sincerely

Hahn. W - MSFT | Microsoft Community Support Specialist
