need help finding the right external hard drive to use with my surface pro 7.
Im not very good with computers so could do with some help with this please.

You don't need anything special. How much storage you need depends on what kind and how much data you are storing whether it be documents, photos, videos, etc.
Buy local. I suggest you go to a computer shop and they can make recommendations and provide support later on should you need it. Buying on line can be a hassle should something go wrong.
Some USB hard drives will need a powered USB Hub between the external drive and your Surface as Surface does not have enough power over USB for some external peripherals.
