Windows RT Surface Model 1516 - Battery not charging

While using my tablet it slipped of my knee.  I caught it but may have jerked the unit.  The battery indicator came on and showed a red X.  I continued to use the tablet, but shut it down in hopes that it would reset the indicator.  When I plugged in the charger the white light of the charger did not come on.  The charger seems to be OK since it shows 12 V.

  1. ? Could something inside the unit got disconnected from the jerking??
  2. ? Is it safe to have the back opened by a non Microsoft computer technician?  I went to Best Buy where I purchased the unit but they would not touch it since it is not under warranty.

Thanks

George

    1. hard to say for sure, but it could happen
    2. Microsoft does not repair these devices or open them. They replace with

refurbs. And it isn't worth the cost for a device this old (and MS probably does

not have any refurb stock at this point).

    Sorry.

    Thanks Barb,

I was able to get it repaired.  One computer store opened the Surface.  It was tuff and took about 40 minutes to open.  They then checked the connections to the battery and were able to correct the problem.

    Regards George
