- Microsoft does not repair these devices or open them. They replace with
refurbs. And it isn't worth the cost for a device this old (and MS probably does
not have any refurb stock at this point).

While using my tablet it slipped of my knee. I caught it but may have jerked the unit. The battery indicator came on and showed a red X. I continued to use the tablet, but shut it down in hopes that it would reset the indicator. When I plugged in the charger the white light of the charger did not come on. The charger seems to be OK since it shows 12 V.

I was able to get it repaired. One computer store opened the Surface. It was tuff and took about 40 minutes to open. They then checked the connections to the battery and were able to correct the problem.
