Hello,
I have a problem with a Surface RT 32 GB bundle. I had windows 8 installed and my surface wouldn't update to 8.1 in the store. I made a recovery drive with my USB from it and tried to do a reset within Windows :
Surface just gives me error on boot now :
"Your PC needs to restart.
Please hold down the power button.
Error Code : 0x0000005C
Parameters :
0x00000110
0x05250631
0x00000014
0C0000001"
I tried using the USB recovery to boot with my finger on volume down and pressing/releasing power button. Then releasing volume down with the "Surface" image. Still getting the error. Tried at least 50 times with volume down (won't boot with button up pressed). Then I cleared my USB recovery drive because I thought that could be the probleme and Downloaded the 3.7GB image Surface RT 8.0 (not from Microsoft website because the link is dead), still getting the error. I just can't boot into the USB drive (FAT32, 32GB, unziped files).
TL;DR : Can't boot on USB at all, why ?
Thanks

You likely have a problem with a controller chip on the RT, same result recovering from within windows or doing the same using a USB.
If you continue to get this error you are probably stuck with 8.0
The MS recovery image download is not dead, it is for all MS surface products. I used it two days ago to download an image for the Surface 2 using IE1. Don't know what browser you used.
The recovery partition on your RT that has 8.0 to restore or create a Usb dirve will still just give you 8.0.
Using the MS image download will give you 8.1. It is 2.92GB. The file downloaded zip is named SurfaceRT_BMR_10.8.17.0. Unzip and copy the files and folders in the SurfaceRT_BMR_10.8.17.0 folder to the clean USB drive.
Booting from a USB. Start with the RT turned off, hold volume down, press/release power, when surface logo appears release volume down. It takes a while to boot.
Thanks for your answer. At this point I don't mind have 8.0 or 8.1, I just want the surface to be working. You are indeed right, the link isn't broken on Microsoft website, I could download it using IE but it was stopping in less than 5 sec with Chrome and Firefox. Anyway I tried again with their version and it's still the same, I can't boot on my USB key. I'm gonna try my other USB key but I know that this one definetly work so it must be a problem within the Surface or idk. Before I tried to update the surface it had no problem using my USB key, I don't get why it would stop all of the sudden.
Just what I thought, still can't boot USB. Damn that's frustrating
