New Surface Pen (2017) Compatibility with Other Surface Devices

Hi, I have pre-ordered the new Surface pen for my Surface Book.

I just want to know the detailed compatibility for this new Surface Pen.

Will this new Surface Pen still comes with 4096 pressure sensitivity when it operates on other Surface devices?

Some says the configuration of the pen will be restricted by the old N-trig chips on old surfaces, and the pressure sensitivity will drop to 1024 for pro4 and book, 256 for pro3. Is this true?

When will the tilt function update happens on other surface devices??

Thanks!

The new Surface Pen works with these generations of Surface Devices: Surface 3, Surface Pro 3, Surface Pro 4, Surface Book, Surface Studio and Surface Laptop.  The new Surface Pro is the first Surface to enable 4096 levels of Pressure Sensitivity and Pen Tilt.  These features will be updated on Surface Book and Surface Studio with updates in early 2018.  All devices benefit from the 9g-low activation force.

    Regards.

We're grateful for your interests about our new Surface Pen. Yes indeed, the new Pen has 4,096 pressure levels, up from 1,024 levels of the previous Surface Pen. Please check this link to know more about it.

For Surface Book updates, please see our support article that can be found on this link.

    Hi, thanks for the reply.

I have read the given link, the new pen supports 4096 level of the pressure sensitivity.

However, does other surface devices support the 4096 level of the pressure sensitivity?

For example, if I am using the new surface pen on my surface book:

The pen supports 4096 level of the pressure sensitivity.

If the surface book only support 1024 level of the pressure sensitivity, the out come pressure sensitivity probably will be 1024 level, since the surface book does support it.

I just want to know if the surface book and other surface devices (other than the new surface pro) support the 4096 level so that when I use the new surface pen on those devices it will be 4096 level.

Also, one more question, does the pen tip of the new pen the same as the surface pro 4 pen?

Is the surface pen tip kit of the pro 4 pen compatible with the new surface pen?

    Thanks!

Does new surface pen support 4096 pressure levels on surface pro4?

I asked this question to live agent twice, but got different answers each time.

I don't need other information about new surface pen and only want to know about the pressure level. Please focus on the given question.

    Hi Tom,

To best answer your question, the new Surface Pen's pressure sensitivity feature will not work on your Surface Book.

The new Pen's unique features only work with Surface Pro. For other devices including Surface 3, SP3, SP4, Laptop, Book and Studio, the new Pen works just like the old pen.

    Hope this answers your concern.

    Regards.
