When trying to project my Windows 10 PC screen to a Windows 11 PC everything works fine until the Windows 10 PC tries to connect to the Windows 11 PC. It times out after not connecting. On the Windows 11 PC a screen lists the devices that may or may not connect to it. The lists are blank. How do I get the name of my Windows 10 PC on that list?

My Windows 10 PC is a Microsoft Surface laptop

DxDiag shows Miracast HDPC

Device name *******

Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-1035G1 CPU @ 1.00GHz 1.19 GHz

Installed RAM 4.00 GB (3.60 GB usable)

System type 64-bit operating system, x64-based processor

Pen and touch Touch support with 10 touch points

***Moved from Windows / Windows 10 / Connect Phone and PC***

The user did not specify the Surface model

I got the projecting to work except for the sound. I projected a PowerPoint presentation from the Windows 10 laptop to the Windows 11 laptop but the sound wasn't projected along with the video.

When I projected a video from the Windows 11 PC to the Windows 10 PC, the sound was projected to the Windows 10 PC but was no longer heard on the Windows 11 PC.

What do I need to change?

    Hi Tom,

    Welcome to Microsoft Community.

I'm Hahn and I'm here to help you with your concern.

Great to hear that the projection is working! It sounds like you're encountering issues with audio redirection during screen mirroring. Here are some steps to ensure sound is properly projected along with the video:

    1. Check Sound Settings on the Windows 10 PC:
      • Right-click the speaker icon in the taskbar and select Open Sound settings.
      • Under Output, ensure the correct playback device is selected. When projecting, you might need to select the "Wireless Display" or a similar option if it appears.
    2. Try Reconnecting:
      • Sometimes, disconnecting and reconnecting the projection can resolve temporary issues. Try reestablishing the connection and see if the audio starts working.
    3. Check App Settings:
      • Some apps, like media players, have their own audio settings. Make sure that they are not redirecting audio to a different device.
    4. Try Reconnecting:
      • Sometimes, disconnecting and reconnecting the projection can resolve temporary issues. Try reestablishing the connection and see if the audio starts working.

Give these steps a try and let me know if the sound issues are resolved! If you encounter any further problems, feel free to ask.

    Your Sincerely
